Pinging to the Bank – How to Increase Blog Traffic

Now some of us may have heard of the term “pinging” in relation to learning how to increase blog traffic, but for most of us it is just a funny word that we then think of When we sweep our brothers or sisters behind the blog. head when they were being ridiculous. In all actuality the term is one of the blogger’s greatest weapons when used correctly. Basically what pinging does is inform the search engines that you have updated your blog. This informs search engines that you have “new” and “fresh” content, and possibly helps you bump higher in search engine rankings resulting in more views and more traffic to your blog. Now let us go through the steps of how to increase your blog traffic by pinging your blog!

First and foremost we want to set up our blog to do what we automatically do for ourselves. Now I want to stress that unfortunately, not all blogs can do this for you, but the two blog services that I use the most do. So in time we will talk about these two which are WordPress and Blogger. These two blogging sites have their own pinging tools which saves us a lot of time and publishes posts for you as soon as you post each entry. All you have to do for WordPress is go to your admin control panel, go to Settings, and then Ping and then add a list of places you’d like to ping. There is a plug-in called “Smart Update Pinger” that you can upload from WordPress that virtually takes this entire process off the ground. In blogger it’s just a matter of making sure that “Allow search engines to find your blog” is highlighted as yes in the dropdown box inside your settings. Now, let’s talk about the second thing that we should do to learn how to increase blog traffic.

When your blog is set up correctly we need to make sure that our newly written posts are being recognized as they are written. There are many different pinging services to use, but we’re only going to talk about two of my favorites. These sites are pingoat.com, and pingomatic.com. These sites are very easy to understand and will notify many sites that you have new content and they are great tools for us when we are learning how to increase blog traffic. I want to emphasize that you want to select only one of them to reduce the “double pinging” effect. Search engines (especially Google) don’t like this and won’t give you as much priority. When you land on one of these sites, simply fill in the basic information including entering your blog’s URL in the space provided and then click ping. It really is that simple!

Now, the idea behind pinging is to be consistent and whenever you write a new post go to the pinging site of your choice and repeat as needed!
